I have set up a 5 gallon bucket with a float to water the girls, but I find that the water gets septic after about two weeks and I have to empty and clean it. To me, that kind of defeats the purpose of the auto-waterer. Is there a way to treat the water naturally? I've thought of goldfish, they work well in the horse trough, but it is a much bigger environment.

There is a product called Oxine, just google it. One gallon lasts forever it is so concentrated. Works great for keeping the slime and such out of waterers. Some people say Hydrogen Peroxide works well also.
