Serama care

I was wondering if anyone else out there keeps seramas outside all year......my boss believes they cannot live outside during a Michigan winter but I have other people telling me they can. I have some mixed bantams that are much smaller than seramas that have no problems tolerating winter with no heat. Just wondering.

By outside do you mean in an unheated coop? I used to have a Serama and he did just fine all winter in an unheated coop and I live in NW Illinois. That winter we had temps below zero. The important thing is that the coop has adequate ventilation without being drafty. You might jump over to the official Serama thread in the breeds forum and ask some of those folks for more information.

Was trying to get some info on this the other day. We have Seramas and they lived out all winter in an unheated coop - did fine but our winter was really mild.

I read all this stuff about how they can't tolerate cold temps but no one seems to be able to quantify that w/a number. My girls are in with the rest of the flock - 15 standards and another teensie bantam who isn't serama but is smaller than the serama and has done great the 3 yrs we've had her.

I'm interested to hear what you find out.
