Hi, I adopted these 8 week old Serama Chicks, from a rescue. Can anyone tell me what kind of feathering they have. They look like male and female to me. Some of their feathers are curly so wanted to see if they could be bred or not. Thanks (read that frizzle and Frizzle cannot be bred together)

The hen has some curly feathers at top/base of tail. What are their colors? Thanks for your help!

I am new to seramas this year. From what I have read this would be a good pairing, but not positive. Apparently frizzle should not be paired to frizzle but rather frizzle to a normal bird with the fizzle gene. The picture below is my

Frizzle can be hidden, either completely or partially, by certain genes. These genes are present in Serama, and since you're seeing some frizzled feathering on both birds, I personally would not cross them. They are also likely to be direct siblings, so a poor choice for breeding together. Your pullet looks like a black tail buff and your roo a crele. Just about no matter what they're paired with, they can throw babies of completely different types. Seramas are full of genes that just need turned on or off!

Try not to plan to breed them just because you have them. These are birds without any known history and they are far too young to tell what kind of quality they will be. They'll make excellent pets no matter what though! :)

This bird is one of eleven that hatched from eggs bought off ebay. The pullet is much better than what the picture shows. From what I have read and looked at she has the appropriate build and stance. She is the only frizzle, the other ten show no trace of the trait. Right now she weighs a bit more than five ounces (ten to eleven weeks old); much smaller than the other seramas I have. I am wondering, should I decide to raise some chicks, what would be the best pairing for this bird?

nchls, other than pairing them with a smooth feathered bird, there's not much to be said for who to pair them with. I would buy a male from a different breeder that was excellent in the departments she lacks in, personally. It is much easier to find lone quality males for sale than lone females. You might even get a nice pair and make them a trio. You will also be able to ask the breeder questions about that bird and their lineage specifically.

Thank you. Something to consider. When my wife bought me the eggs she made sure to get the eggs from two different breeders. I made sure to keep those eggs separate so I would know who came from where. I have a beautiful red/black rooster from the batch different from the hen. While he does not possess the many characteristics like the hen, he does have his good points-we'll see as he/she get older. Again, thank you.
