I adore Seramas and have managed to hatch out 3 - 2 roos and a pullet.

Several of my friends' kids have gotten excited about this breed and want to raise them for 4H next year.

I was wondering if anyone knows about breeders or sellers that have Seramas in Califorina. The ones I have I hatched out from shipped eggs from the Southern US, but my hatch rate wasn't very good.

Any ideas from my wise BYC brethern???

Ebay is probably a bad source. You could breed your better rooster to the pullet and hatch the eggs. One pullet can lay as many as six eggs in eight days so you could have a good hatch. That would only work if you have a good incubator on hand, however.

Good luck!

When I first found this site I looked through the 'where are you' part of the index and I remember a guy in San Diego who had a great collection of seramas. That's pretty far south for you, but maybe there are some listed closer.?

Dont get discouraged because the serama eggs come from a distance. The breed is known for not having a great hatch rate. Out of every batch I have the rate is 50% and for some reason they always seem to fail to pip and suffocate. it has something to do with the humidity. One breeder sent instruction to raise it to 80% and keep turning even on the 19th day, others said 60-70% and stop turning on the 17th day. It is a game of luck i think with this adorable little breed! Bluegrasseramas knows a lot about them and she is here on BYC.
