Posting this here just in case anyone in a situation like mine needs some hope 😊

We had a beloved momma house hen who hatched out one little Serama chick recently, and heartbreakingly died suddenly of organ failure about a week two weeks ago. She left her one baby, now named Snowpea, behind, and as tame and bonded as she was to us she was lonely the second I had to put her down to go to work, etc. I tried a stuffed animal, a mirror, a heat pad for snuggling in, you name it. Unfortunately none of my other hens were broody or raising chicks at the time, and I had no luck trying to find a serama or bantam chick I could put in with her. I did, however, have two standard chicks (an EE and a Black Star) that were about 2 weeks old in our brooder - around the same age as Snowpea.

I did a lot of research, and I was worried to try to introduce them to Snowpea due to the size difference. All the info I’d found on this forum and others said it was risky and she could easily get hurt or killed by bigger siblings. But Snowpea was very unhappy by herself, so I decided to try integrating her with the 2 chicks and monitored the situation very closely. Maybe I got very lucky, but after a day or two of getting to know each other (nicely, lol) they had all bonded and have getting along fantastically since! The standard chicks seem very aware of Snowpea and there haven’t been any truly scary moments for her, and now she’s very happy with her towering buddies 😂 They hang out together, snuggle together, dust bathe, etc. and I’m so relieved to see all 3 of them so happy together.

Just wanted to share, because I hadn’t found any success stories to give me hope when I was facing this situation. I hope it can help even one person! Pic of Snowpea and her friends for evidence lol
