Serama Quality Question!! Serama lovers please help lol **PICS**

Thanks! I cant wait to show off this years crop in the fall!!

IMO=In my opinion

Let them mature and see what they look like in another month or two.

I dont want to be harsh, but if I were you, Id first look at some show winning hens...then you will know where yours stand.

It depends on where you show, who you are up against and how bad you want to win!

Do I think that they are pretty close to the standard?...

..not so much....

Do I think you might win a local show and have better birds than someone else? Maybe!

You never know until you try.

Look at some hens here:

and there was NO seramas at my youth fair and I don't think there was any at state fair. I mainly want them for breeding and sharing the chicks with myy friends and whoever wants them

IMO.... (lol)

If I were going to breed, I'd try to better the breed.

Id get a super nice roo, if you are going to keep those hens.

I always think in dog terms as more people relate to that.
Lets say that you were going to breed dalmatians.......(and that dogs dont have papers--like chickens dont)

You bought two female Dals and they had LONG hairy, bushy tails like Irish setters.... Other than that, they were the same size (19 to 23 inches at the shoulder) and had great spots, great shape of head, leg, conformation etc...

All the AKC breeders would tell you:
"its a junk cross and not even a Dalmatian.
" According to the standard they are to have a tail that is smooth and medium length and straight tapering at the tip"
"They wouldnt ever show it!"
" They cull anything that is that far from the standard!"
" Why breed that when you can get a quality Dalmatian and breed something better!"
'"We know you couldn't tell when you got them as puppies, but now you know and you can keep them as pets or give them away and start over!"
You might hear things like that....

Well...your dogs dont really fit that standard as they have bushy furry tails.
Do you breed them? Do you show them? Surely you could have fun and win a local show! Not too many Dals in your area...

Would you make more "mutts" (or not so great Dalmations)? Would you get new and better dogs to go out and better the world's breed, or would you just breed what you already have?
Think tho...if you breed these and then give the puppies away, then they possibly do the same, then you have added many new bushy tailed non-viable-dogs to the Dalmatian breed......

Sort of the same Idea...

Not everyone has a great start. I got ripped off big time on my first buy, but I really wanted to better the breed as I love them and think they are best in their pure form! I did what I could and started over...but that is just the decision that I made...You have to decide what to do with your birds that will work for you.
They are still kind of young..I dont think a lot is going to change, but you never know!!

I almost culled my SQ roo, 'cause he was UGLY as an adolescent. Did I say that before?

Lol that would have stunk if you would have culled him. I think i may save up my money (I don't have a job lol I'm 15 and i think the people getting laid off from work that need a job to support their family should have the job because i don't need it as bad) and buy 1 or 2 Really nice hens. Then buy a really nice roo since roo's are cheaper. Would you reccomend me getting a silkied serama roo? Then i could have a trio or quad with some being SQ and PQ

If I were you, I would save up and get a nice roo. Shipping is going to cost you about 50 bucks more.
Then you can give your hens time to mature and see what that breeding does. If you raise up some chicks and none of them are really type, then you can go and look for more expensive hens...or get some eggs from a reputable breeder..have those hens sit on the good eggs and raise up another batch of better birds and hope to get some good hens out of those.

Where do you get your moo-lah if you dont have a job?
Just curious!

You can get a silkied serama if you like those...

Im not sure what you ment by some being PQ and some SQ..?

You know...I think that you can show them.....I was at the Columbus Nationals and Im not 100 percent positive, but I think there were silkied serama there...I'll have to look at my pictures....
I know that they have been at local/state shows here.....

Jerry breeds them so...probably??

We might ask Ondra....
I dont really like silkied serama, so I dont pay that much attention to them...

Off to google!
