Hi, I have a Serama roo, three Serama pullets, and four standard pullets. I'm curious, if I put the roo in with the big hens, would their eggs be fertile?

I say yes....Seramas are chickens and when you cross other breeds of chickens the eggs are fertile so I think if the Serama Roo is able to breed the hens the eggs should be fertile....the bigger question is what will they look like? How big will they get??

I have bantam roos in with my standard hens, and mating is difficult for them. Even if the hen is "in the mood" and lays down on the ground, the roo has trouble grasping the head feathers while getting far enough down her back to reach the sweet spot. What I'm ending up with is a lot of frustrated roos and bald hens!

A serama is even smaller than a bantam, so he'll have an even tougher time.

I have tons of seramas and quite a few standard hens and I'd say it's very unlikely. They just wont be able to reach.

Most of the little guys here never even try. They standard hens are about 8x their size.

I have one that always tried to breed a BO/RIR hen (little Punky, my black roo). He would try so hard, but I highly doubt her eggs were fertile even though she was quite cooperative ... poor little bugger just couldn't reach ... not that it discouraged him any

Oh, really? Drat, I would have been so interested to see the chicks. At least he has three hens his own size.
Thank you all for your contributions!
