Serama Showing

Hello all,

It has been quite a while since I have posted but I finally have chickens again! My boyfriend is also in this venture with me and was hounding me for Seramas for a couple years. We finally got some seramas and now he is looking into Serama shows. I breed and show Dobermans in my free time so if showing Seramas is anything like showing Dobermans, these birds I bought off a random breeder in GA I highly doubt are show quality. It would be like me trying to get a show quality doberman from people who just breed for pets.

So give me the good, the bad, and the ugly on Serama showing. I have read the standard but it looks like only 3 color variations are recognized. Is that right? Please let me know all there is to know about Seramas and showing.

Also, any upcoming shows near Marietta, GA?

I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention to this thread, but I’ll tell you what I know. First of all, there are three AMERICAN Serama varieties recognized. The American Poultry Association is stricter with accepting varieties, but Serama breeders wanted a chance to compete against other breeds in our shows, so they chose to get those three varieties accepted. The Serama is fairly new to the Standard, so there may be more to come.
Most Seramas are shown in special “Tabletop Competitions” where they are judged only against other Seramas and color is disregarded. Seramas are judged only for the best station and type. Tabletop Competitions can sometimes be seen as a separate exhibit at certain poultry shows, or they will be their own show like this one: https://www.poultryshowcentral.com/Southeastern_Serama_Club_Show.html I don’t know that this one is still going on as the show date is 2019.
