Serama Tom
Chirping
I have been raising chickens for 25-yrs. I have settled on raising only Serama Bantams because their size and leavings are easily managed in our back yard environment when I let them free range. I particularly enjoy watching the chicks grow from such little bits to flying prowling little searchers. I am a passionate wild turkey hunter. Many of the Wild Turkey habits are mimicked by chickens. Crowing/gobbling of the males, strutting of the males, scratching/dust bathing. lying on their side and stretching their leg and wing that are exposed to the sun, and of course roosting (in our coop or 30-ft off the ground in a tree) Bird personalities can indicate what they might do next. All of the mannerisms are enjoyable as we sit on our patio and watch the chicken world go by each day.
I am retired from the Fire Service, (36+ years). We also enjoy plant gardening and sometimes must think up new methods to prevent oour chickens from scratching out our new plantings.
