I have clear plastic shower curtains covering the wiring of my chicken pen, the rest of the pen is enclosed on top and 2 sides. Over the roost, I have 2 hanging clamp lights with 60 watt bulbs that I keep on every night during the winter. I had about 28 seramas and the roos seem to know to sit under the lights to keep their combs from freezing. We had one night this winter that got down to 9 degrees one of the coldest nights in several years in Atlanta. That is the night that I moved them into my brooder room and crammed them into cages, with a space heater as the only heat. It stayed above freezing that night. Don't let that discourage you, they are addictive,. I thought about selling out, but I get so attached to them. THey are people friendly and easy to maintain thanks to their small size.
