What purpose were Seramas originally bred for?
My 10 year old uses a Serama hen for showmanship. She knows lots of Serama history and facts but can't find what they were originally bred for?

Tiny companions for royalty, exhibition, cheap to care for tiny egg producers?
Anyone know

They originate from Malaysia, and they are kept as pets. They prize them and take pride in showing the lovely birds at shows held every weekend. Some of the top winners will sell for over 3000$. How long they have been around I am unsure.

Yes, daughter knows they are from Malayasia, very popular as house and apatment pets. Info out there that they were bred from the native jungle fowl BUT she can not find any info on what purpose they were originally bred for.

Anyone ?

I have read in several places that they have always been bred as pets.

Unless I hear different from someone else, daughter will go with companion animal as the original breeding purpose.
Thanks

I remember reading somewhere that they were bred for fighting but cant remember where. I can believe it from the attitudes i have seen in some of the.roosters we have had. I have had a couple serama cocks that were surprisingly aggressive/game towards other cockbirds. But since i cant remember where i read it, well just call it an opinion.
