Serious blood clot in leg....

2years ago my 37 year old healthy son had work done on his knee after jumping from an emergency helo he was working with. Following surgery and afer coming home he was rushed back to ER with severe pain in his lowe back and chest. a quick run of test showed both lungs filled with clots. the specialist said he had never seen anyone filled with this much and lived. very uncommon for his age too. it was touch and go for a while and he had the shots to his stomach also, along with blood thinners and had to monitor him close, and still testing on occassion.

i am very thankful your hubby is under medical care. it really, really helps. Did you receive a list of foods which he should avoid while taking the meds?

oh, and lifting you both and the mediacal professionals in prayer!

Wished BYC have a prayer smilies instead of crossing fingers type of thing (hope). I want one with the hands put together, eyes looking upwards.

Hope for speedy recovery! It just takes time.

I've been in your boat. DH had both a leg full of blood clots and pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs); still has one in his leg as a matter of fact, 20 months after the initial injury.

The shots they gave your husband in his belly are heparin, a stong anti-coagulant.

sending prayers. my aunt had a serious blood clot in her leg. had to remove most of the leg area. It took many months to heal. but still left a hole in her leg. she was lucky, she still has her legs. sending many good thoughts and prayers. perhaps they caught this in time for your dh.

I can't tell you how much we appreciate your prayers. I agree with Ewesheep who said they wish BYC had a prayer icon.

DH is resting right now but this morning he had a nuclear stress test and he honest to goodness, he thought he was going to die right there on the table. He was instantly violently ill with dry heaves and he said his heart felt like it was coming out of his chest. We are waiting now for the results.

Apparently, they have found atrial fibrilation (sp?) that is causing blood to move at an inconsistant rate, causing some concern about clotting, etc.

kareninthesun, cannot imagine having a child that young go through what yours did! Thank God he made it!

gritsar and annie, I didn't realize this was a common problem... I guess it isn't when it happens to you! And yes, I looked at the meds list and the injections were heparin. He's also getting nitro and CouMarin.

Thanks again for all your support.

I'll keep you updated when we hear more from the dr

In case the medical team forgot to tell you...your DH shouldn't have any dark greens while on coumadin therapy.

yeah, and tell him to stay away from the chickens until he's off of the coumadin since it is in the same family as rat poison... : )

Oh, gosh I hope he pulls through alright!

kareninthesun, I don't get it - why should someone on blood thinners stay away from the chickens? DH is on blood thinners...
