Quite common I believe, my birds have always preferred to use the same boxes.
I've had 15-20 hens, four nesting boxes, they only have ever used two of them .
I plan on doing away with the dividers, make it just one long community nest box, roll out to keep the eggs cleaner. With curtains, keep hearing hens prefer curtains lol. And for winter the roll out box lined with heat tape so no more frozen busted eggs.
