Seriously looking into raw feeding but need ways to cut costs first

Yes - science has recently changed dogs to the omnivore status. At least that's what they teach us in vet school. Hey - I feed science diet to my guys - you can feed what you want! Don't dish my brand ! it works for me! :)

X2 - I have done research and what she is adressing is people who don't feed their dogs a true raw diet as in the 80-10-10 rule.

Also even it does cost more than a bag of 50 pound food - while the cost is one of the things I'm looking at - it is not the total deciding factor. That would be like saying this lettuce cost more than this candy bar so I guess I'll just have to live on candy bars. (BTW this is exactly why I think we have obese people cost and convience outweighs true nutrition )

I do appreciate the many views here though.

Geez - I'm just offering some experience of my own - I never said not do do a raw diet, just offering experience with what I've seen in a clinical setting - chill out 'peeps' - do you have to cuss? and the name calling? They are just doing research - I had some to share. Geez. I have just as much experience as you and have seen opposite results. To each their own. Thank goodness we live in American where we can choose! Okay>?

according to sceince diet, eukanuba and the other dog food veterinary sponsores ogs are omnivores, they love corn too, eveyrone loves corn...
(yes i whent to veterinary school, 2 years of it before i couldnt handle it anymore, i know how the nutriton classes are taught, and i know who teaches them...the dog food company reps...)
according to ACTUAL science (not what the dog food comanies teach their reps to sell to vet schools< dog nutrition coursesin vet scools are not taught by dog nutritionists...funny huh!? there taught by food sponsors)
dogs are carnivores, they cannot digest grain at all, and can only digest vegatable matter that has already been partially pre-digested. the dogs stommach cannot digest cellulose AT ALL, so grain and plant matter both made primarily of plant cellulose are compltly useless unless already eaten propr to being eaten by a dog...

gren trip is an example of this...green tripe is intestine filled with "green" matter (vegatables...dogs can and readily digest this vegatable matter as the animal designed to digest it already did all the work....
howeve rfeeding your dog a raw carrot....sure they enjoy it and its a low cal snack, but they cant USE any of the nutrients in it, their bodies simply cannot break down the cellulose...
puree that carrot or juice it and its more readily digestable however...

dogs dont need grain at all, corn is the worse, but rice bran, oats ect...they dont need it...(neither do most animals to be precice even cows, chickens ect wouldnt NATURALLY eat grain...)

dogs d need "green" matter however fresh whole veggies is useless, they need to be partially cooked, juiced, mushed ect to be any us eof the body.
this is why when feeding ra i follow prey model, they get everytig including stomach and intestines...my dogs typically eat the intestines and stomach itself, but will push the stomach contents out and ignore them.

pb...ive never had a problem with green tripe making poop smell any more than usual...howeve rthe tripe itself is stinky lol.

What??? This is completely contradictory to my 12 yrs of rswfeeding and what my many vet friends tell me.
First, raw food and even canned are way better than dry at keeping teeth clean. Bones and muscle act as cleaners in raw, and at least canned rinses out of the teeth. Eat a cracker and tell me how clean your teeth are.
Next, raw meat is NOT high in protein. You can check this yourself on the usda website, there is a nutrition calculator there. Raw meats avergae 12-16% protein
Meat that is made for human consumption is also parasite and disease free, and even if it isn't , dogs have different gi tracts than we do and can handle some cooties. Dogs are not omnivores, they are carnivores. They are also opportunists, which is why thewy WILL eat non meat things, but they don't need them.
