Service Dog / Therapy Dog Vest Size large

No kidding! I am now training a Chihuahua as my next Service Dog. You should see the looks I get when people hear that. I went from a 110 pound black lab to a now 5 pound Chi. People cannot understand that a small can work, just in different ways! And yes, I have been sick of explaining my medical need for a SD for about the last 7 years, as long as I've been using one... Ugh.

just to add my lil bit here..... my 11 lb shih tzu is a SD (medical alert) as well. I know the "looks" very well, but without her, i couldnt be out there, so i deal

........ It has become quite amusing to me the comments, or questions at times. Others, i just want to 'get on with it' and get the heck out.. It's quite a life style to get used to for sure, but sure beats the alternitive;)......oops, guess this is a sale, not a chat...hehe

Well I am hoping more people get aware of the smaller dogs. And I've heard alot about Chihuahua's working. People are like "what good can that dog do ? " I even had a worker at target laugh and say " well he is small what good can he be ?? "

I was like hum let me think. He has saved me from getting hit by a car not once but twice. He has gone for help several times when I have blacked out. He has alerted my husband to me sleepwalking and getting near stairs, which was a side effect of medication.

I think the normal person doesn't understand that over time there is a langage between the dog and handler. I want to almost call it doggy talk. I can read Milo's body langage. He has a follow me look that is clear to my entire family. Which often means I need to take you to something. So hard to explain unless you know what I mean

I am amazed how they know things humans can not detect. Milo alerted me today to my daughter again so yup I called doctor. Last time he alerted we found she has Lupus.

Amazing !

I love it when I talked to the DOJ. They said more and more people are becoming aware of the many breeds of dogs working nowdays. I say WOOT !!

OK, I'm an RN, worked in Rehab, had a Therapy Dog, and still had NO IDEA that a small dog, such as a Chihuahua could be a SD!! See, I really do learn something new on here every time I come on

But, now that I think about it, of course there would be situations where they would work perfectly--I just never thought about it.

Well I out here have seen more of the smaller dogs as anxiety dogs. Which again they are not covered by the same laws and accessabilty that SD's are. I can see why someone would prefer the smaller dog for those type of jobs. Now at times I wish my dog was bigger only because I feel he gets more attention because he is cute. I did not get him for being cute he had the temperment I wanted. Bonus is yes he is very cute

And I thik I got very lucky as he was pretty easy to train. But I don't think a small dog would be a mobility dog
