DH says it's too late. Is he right? We have had an unbelieveably hot/humid summer this year. We have noticed however, that the walnut trees are changing and dropping their nuts already. The chicks' hatch date is Aug 22. Will they be old enough to handle the weather by mid September? They will be broody raised and I can hang a light if I need to, but would rather they have full run of outside and barn. I free range when we are home.

If your hen is a good mother, I think the chicks will be fine. By mid to late September they should have their feathers, and until then their mother will keep them warm. We just had some hatch a few days ago, its a lot of fun! Best of luck.

Thanks Agricola. This will be my 6th hatch this summer. All my broodies have been hatchery hens, but have been good mothers. This is this broody's first hatch.
