I've bought 10 chicks each of the past two years. This year, I decided to try hatching my own. I gathered 17 eggs over a week and set them, this past Saturday. I thought about building my own incubator. But, in the end, I picked one up at the local farm store. They've been holding temp, really well for two days, now. I've been turning the eggs twice day. I'd like to do more. But, have to work. I'm planning on candling in a few more days.

I set some on the 6th feel like a new mommy.....the end of the month can't get here quick enough....this is my first hatch also....I ordered last year day old chicks...i decided to hatch some this year...i put 40 in hoping for at least 50%

Sending good hatching vibes to you both. I set 24 (plus 1 green just for me) on the 6th... Hoping for a good outcome!

Good Luck!!!

Hatched an incredible 16/17 over the past two days. Some tense moments when I had to decide whether or not to help a few. 12 are doing really well. 4 are in the "ICU". But, they're looking much better. They simply weren't strong enough to mix with the others.

The first chick hatched as I was getting up, Saturday morning. Saturday night, I couldn't sleep. I was up three or four times, checking on them. Two hatched in the middle of the night. They wreaked so much havoc on the other eggs, I had to move them to the brooder with the others.

Not sure what happened on #17. Either it's not fertile. Or, it couldn't make it all the way. I'm leaving the incubator on for another day or so. Who knows? Not a bad success rate for one rooster in a pen of 10 hens. Busy guy!

so long as it hasnt pipped you could candle it and see if you see any movement. Listen to it to see if you hear any peeping too. And even if it doesnt make it you had a great hatch. Yes I would leave it in for awhile
