Oh my goodness, they are adorable. I love BCM babies. And the blue puffy cheeks... But they all sweet.

OK though, how on earth do you get the little bands on their legs? I have them and can't get them on without almost breaking their legs they keep wiggling around.

I have no idea if I'm doing it right, but I kind of 'un-spiral' the leg band so I can wrap it around the leg. Then push it back into a circle / spiral shape. When they get older, if we still need to tell them apart I'm just going to get the tiny colored zip-ties from the hardware store. Easier!

I don't know how you all do it - take pictures that have no poop in them.

A few days late - here are week 2 progress pictures!

The strange feather chick is from Jubaby, part of an experimental breeding project of hers. What's wrong with their feathers? by Jubaby

At this point, Jubaby is working on a test breed of her strange feathered ameraucanas with some silkies to see if they hatch true silkied chicks. It looks like they might be a silkie/amera (now an ee) mix (their leg color and lack of the ameraucana features their parents had are concerning) but there's a chance they are pure ameraucana that have a 'defective' (defective in the sense that it inhibits normal feather growth) gene - either h (hookless, the one silkies have) or fr (fray, which is a much more serious defect, which can cause large sections of 'missing feathers' and has been linked to a decrease in hatching egg viability.)

OnTheSpot's Grandson sure is a handsome fellow. Forget about the poo, I'm thrilled if I manage to even get a bird in my pics with my slow camera.

I see a dozen or so you could send my way if you need the room. Just let me know.

You wouldn't happen to be interested in the Blue Olive Egger and BCM/EE males would you?

With the new straight runs we're getting, the hopefully successful hatches and my usual roo/pullet ratio I'll probably have to make a trip to the processor inside the next 6 mnths. My basement isn't that big, my DH isn't that understanding and I don't have that many accommodating friends.
