Just set 8 Black Copper Marans I received from Ms. Helen Byers. Wade Jeane / Bev Davis / Channing Grisham lines. Eggs are about a 6-7 on the Marans egg scale, these are from consistent hens, so that is promising. So many Marans out there that lay dark to start and can't stay dark. From the quality I am expecting, I hope to be able to make some fall bird shows. There are two that are definitely 7-8's, hoping one of them is a roo...

Anyway, set on Thursday 4/14 @ 10pm.

Can you post a picture of that scale? I have Marans in the incubator right now, but I do not think they are that dark.

Don't know if this will work. Front left is 7-8, front right is 6-7, rest are 5-6. Back one is 4 (experiment egg). Problem with Marans is many will lay super dark to begin with, but all lighten. Getting hens to "hold their color" is key, and what all proper Marand breeders strive for, aside from the rest of the French standards. Did my beat with junky iPhone camera.

Candled tonight, hard to do on the dark eggs, however I did see some vessels in a couple (I think), and definitely saw some shadows moving in one

Some are very hard to tell, seem to be very dark on one on all of them, at least some very noted changes since setting.

Got to show my 7 year old son, he thought that was the coolest thing ever.
