Set eggs 3/17.... Anyone else?

I found both the marans and the yokohamas on craigs list. I have not had either of these chickens before, I liked the dark look of the marans eggs, and thought the yokohama was a pretty bird,
I'll probably only keep the marans and will do something with the others. You can only have so many... Can't you? :D

Adding water every 2 days to the Little Giant incubator. The hen that I thought was going broody was off the nest at least an hour yesterday and one egg had been pushed out of the nest. Not a lot going on with watching eggs in a styrofoam box.

:pop Yep, I'm watching my styrofoam boxes too... They haven't moved yet

I have been turning soil up with a pitchfork in the chicken run. Free chicken food and they come running. It use to be a little chasing and herding to get them back in the pen when I let them out for an hour or so. Now if I get the roo in they all a go in. The winter chicken shed is mounted on utility poles for skids and I want to plant zuchini in the spot they are at now.So little at a time the whole pen will get turned over. For the summer they will get the pine trees.

Just checking in. I have also been watching my styrofoam boxes! I try not to candle everyday but it is hard. They are moving all around in there. I think I have around 15 left moving.

thank goodness it only takes 21 days!!

Day 14 for me tomorrow, man is it dragging...

Day 14 for me also!!!!!!! 2/3 of the way there!!!!! I can not wait! It takes everything I have not to go watch them.... I candled a couple tonight and they are amazing! I went to the farm store and got a baby waterer and feeder. Tiny ones that will fit in the brooder better then the 1gallon ones I have. Only thing is, I forgot chick food.... Oh well another trip to the farm store! I love that place.

Our feed store was giving away 5 pullet chicks with every bag of chick starter, I had to get two.;)
My sister is raising them with her ten, after the incubator chicks hatch I'll give her some and get my ten back. Three weeks difference is going to be a pretty big difference, isn't it?

I'll join in this hatching too if''n that's all right?

I'd set on the 17th also. Started with 34 eggs in a Hova-bator with fan.

14 shipped Blue Rocks
9 Blue Orp mix over Blue Orpington- our birds
11 Blue Orp mix over Black Rock- our birds

Ran humidity 40% and candled 1/3 Tuesday night. Kids wouldn't let me throw any out but did note air cell size and thought it a bit small for 10.5 days. Took out water to let humidity ride 18-22% for day and half. Candled pre-sunrise, pre-time to awake kids for school Thursday. Didn't get to candle them all but tossed 2 clear, and the blood ring and early quitter found earlier. Down to 30 eggs with most candled. Air cells looked great so put my glass tumbler back in that holds humidity at 40%.

Looking good and really hoping I finally get some roosters from shipped Blue Rock eggs. Tried two hatches last year to get this breed and ended up with 1 surviving female (all my fault that hatch) and second batch was drop kicked to me in postal service, only three developed with none hatching. Ugh...

Welcome Jr. blue Orps look so pleasant. Things you won't find at a farm store. Waiting to see if any one at our county fair shows any this year to add to my EE flock. The shipped egg thing is so iffy from the reading on this site. I'm hoping for a Blue roo in my current hatch and push that color for the flock.
