Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

Ok I just went out to check the eggs and decided to shake them very gently and I can hear something jostling around in there...what does that mean? Should I open one up? Im so scared!!!!!

My eggs are dead. I looked at the temperature (still using the thermometer that you point at the eggs) and it said 104. I got worried and turned it way down, then candled them. The temperature was not accurate enough. The temperature was not at 104, it was 120. Feeling so stupid right now.

I lost most of my first batch of call eggs because I thought my temp was 100 and it was around 96 the whole time. I use those cheap aquarium thermometers that are $3 at walmart. I have one below, level, and above the eggs now.

If they are moving around they are ok. Are they under a broody? Let her take care of it, they are better at this than us.

Have you candled them and seen any movement earlier in the incubation? How many are there? If you think they are all dead I'd open one to see what's going on inside. Just open a tiny hole at the big end first and shine a light in there and see if you can see any movement before going any further.

I would not open them. Every single step the chick takes in order to escape his eggshell and emerge into the world is ABSOLUTELY imperative to his/her life as a chicken. If he/she skips ANY single step it can mean he won't make it as a chicken, the struggling he does causes his heart to pound and lungs to open, external capillaries then shrink and the yolk pulls inside, which separates him from the shell and allows him to leave the egg without bleeding. Usually I would leave them in the incubator for 2 days past the due date, unless i can still see signs of movement or hear little cheeping sounds. I set mine on the 5th as well, and so far out of 27 I have had 21 hatch, one died in his shell, and 1 died after hatching. I will leave the last few in there until tomorrow and then unless I see a sign of life I will unplug the incubator. It's always so sad when any single chick doesn't make it, but for reasons I do not understand, under the best conditions sometimes only the strong survive. (when they die right before emerging is the saddest, they were so very close..and then they just stop breathing :( )

I am a pansy too..so I can't really open them to see what's going on..I am not scientific in that I want to do any autopsy or otherwise investigate the contents of the egg. :( Maybe if I could I would have better knowledge, but I am too squeamish.
