hmmmm..hope the lg doesn't spike..I have 9 viable eggs in there..the other 20 don't look like they were ever fertile. the ones that are in lockdown are in a homemade bator. It was holding temp really well until our weather went wacky.

I had a late hatch my first time, ended up my thermometer was showing the wrong temp. I incubated at roughly 98 instead of 99.5. even if you think your thermometer is good, you should check out a bunch and make sure. I got 2 Brinsea Spot Checks and they seem to be showing the correct temp.I never seem to have any chicks hatch before 23 days - sometimes up to 24 days. I have eggs set on Feb 7 and 8 and Im expecting them to start hatching tonight or in the morning. I do err on keeping my temps on the cooler side because of a fear of "cooking" my eggs maybe thats why they take longer. If Im going to be gone from the house for the whole day, I will turn the temps down a little because my LG has a tendency to spike at times.
weirdly one of the eggs has a little pushed out spot..not a crack or anything, but more like the chick is just pushing on that spot rather than pecking it

Weird...can you post a pic?
Were these shipped eggs? Even a fertilized egg may not start development if it was severely manhandled by the P.O. Folks erroneously believe that if an egg doesn't begin developing that it was not fertilized and that couldn't be further from the truth. But, of course, if they weren't shipped, then they probably are just not fertile.
I had a situation between a rooster and one particular hen where her eggs were fertilized (trust me, I've seen plenty of bullseyes in my time), but none would develop. When folks who I shipped to never got her eggs to grow, I became suspicious and started incubating batches of her eggs, five at a time. I did this four or five times with just her eggs alone. Not one ever developed. All other hens in that same pen had chicks by this rooster and upon inspection (you really have to know how to open an incubated egg so the yolk doesnt disintegrate), each had a clear bullseye. Bad chemistry between those two birds was all it was. Her eggs with another rooster did develop, I'm told by one customer.
One of the D'Anver x Cochin eggs is zipping!
Correction: It's out! Looks bluish, but that would mean it's lavender so one of the porcelain males is the sire. Feathered legs and rose comb!
