Heavy condensation usually means that humidity has gone above 80% due to the chicks hatching and adding their own moisture in there. Open up vents to let some escape. If you have to, prop the corner of the bator on a pencil crossways for a few minutes to let some moisture escape so it comes back down-that's what I do when the windows fog up like that. They do have a hard time drying off when humidity is 80-90%.

When I noticed the condensation, I did open one of the vents for about 20 seconds. I just checked it about 10 mins ago and the condensation was considerably less and the chicks were peeping away. Please let me know if my terminology is wrong, I'm very new at this. Thanks for the reply!!

I have 3 pips...DARN IT!

I purposely set these to hatch on Tuesday....since I will be off on Monday-Thursday, thinking I was covering the time frame of hatch....and the darn little boogers are trying to hatch right before I have to work tonight!

Maybe I'll have peeps tomorrow!

Also, I just set some nice olive colored eggs I got from another Byc'r. They are Sumatra/EE mixes... and some more bantam eggs. I hope some of these are pures...Blue Cochin and Silkies...

Oh, that explains it! I have never tried dry incubation. I would still wait though...maybe

Have you seen any movement at all?

No movement. I am assuming maybe the some of the low temps flucuations I had may make my hatch delayed a couple days?

Can you add water to the incubator? With no humidity, doesn't that dry out the membrane so they can't break through? This is my first time as well, but the Backyard Poultry Mag had a GREAT article that really helped alot, along with this forum.

I do add water to the incubator, every day. It was just a couple times that it got that low, but I haven't had any other problems with humidity. It is 40% right now.

7 more day more days lol feels like a long time, but i love looking at all the new babies and learning new things like how to get rid of considensation during lockdown.

I'm still here! No, I didn't get scared off lol. I did not enjoy the comments of "you shouldn't have done that" and "leave nature alone" or whatever was said as no one is here and can assess the situation, it was the best choice to make, and they all would have died had I not helped. It was the same as my first hatch, helped them all out. If I would have "left it" I would have no chicks at all. I do completely understand the responses I got though, and why it was said, and thank you all for helping me!
I had to step away for a bit as (sometimes to me) the internet and things I read freak me out and I start to panic, so I needed to calm myself and think, get some food and rest!

Well, I have 5/9 chicks, so that is pretty good! All of them were so badly shrinkwrapped, the ones that had not pipped at the time of my last post were the worst, although they did manage to pip on their own, then I helped them. I lost the others, and am not sure why..? They pipped on their own, as soon as they did, I took them out and wet the membrane and made sure their nostrils were exposed so that they could breathe, and they were, they were chirping and moving but I found them dead when I woke up this morning.

So anyways, I will get some pics soon! I am currently holding my latest hatchling as he/she did lose a touch of blood, but thanks to the cornstarch and putting pressure, it stopped pretty soon. Thank you Newduckie for the Corn starch tip, and thanks to everyone who was giving me suggestions!

Glad to have you back! I was hoping you would update!!
Why do you think you have had to help them all in both hatches? I am not being a jerk, I really would like to know what you think caused both hatches to require assistance? I am curious as to what your temps and humidity run throughout and also what age was your last batch when you helped them?

Also, which ones did you lose?
Would like pics of the five!
Forgive me if you know this, but you do know that a lot of times when they pip it can take 24 hours to zip and hatch, right?

My Silkie took 33 hours from the time I first saw the pip to the time she hatched, earlier this afternoon. The only thing I did for her was to use a Qtip to put a little moisture on the membrane around the zip. She did stick her beak out and drink some of the water.

Hope this isn't a stupid question; My Silkies were in the same yard as my RIR's. Surely the RIR rooster didn't/couldn't mate w/the Silkie? He never showed ANY interest in her. Both my male & female Silkie are/were (male is now gone) white. My chick has a redish tint on the tips of it's fluff. Isn't quite dry yet so I won't try doing another pic through the plastic viewer.
