One of my supposed oegb x silkie girls, Sweetie, went broody for the first time ever about a week ago and we don't have a rooster so I gave her a couple of d'Uccle eggs I was planning on hatching myself. My boyfriend and I saw it coming, she started walking around the yard all poofed out. She's a small bird so she looked ridiculous waddling around like that! Cute thang! Next thing we know she's sittin' in a nest box, ready to go. I can't wait to see her raise some babies, momma hens are so adorable! I gave her a porcelain and self blue egg. She really is a sweetie, she hasn't tried to peck me at all. Even when I moved her into the house last night and switched her little infertile egg for the d'Uccle eggs. She lets me pet her in there too!

She is the cutest little mommy! I have 2 porcelain D'uccle bantam hens, the are pretty sweet. I wanted them to go broody, but so far they haven't! lol Good luck with yours!

She is a beautiful hen. I adore her coloring!

Sweetie might lay another egg, so keep watch. I'm not familiar with the egg color of the breeds you placed under her. You might mark the end with a pencil so you know which one Sweetie is supposed to brood.

Good luck! I received 4 hatching eggs today that I placed under my two broody silkie hens. They seem to be taking their responsibilities very seriously! I'm with you on this experience. This is my first time so I'm as nervous as can be! Best wishes for a successful hatch!
Aloha,
Joan

Thanks! Others have said (not here on BYC) that her coloring is a bit boring but I sure do like it! Her tail feathers have sort of a calico thing going on too.

Since I got a dozen assorted d'uccle eggs they came already marked but had they not been marked they would look an awful lot like her own eggs. Her eggs are so small, significantly smaller than her two sisters' eggs. She's got a HUGE comb compared to them though.

Since they're silkies they're bound to be good mommas. That's what I hear, oegb and silkies. lol And my baby is supposed to be a mix of both! Super broody!

ScratchesWithChickens, how are things going? Candle at all yet? I did when they got off their nest today and two of the four seem to be developing. I am hoping for more. Are you as nervous as I am?
Aloha,
Joan

I haven't checked yet, she hasn't moved off the nest and I don't wanna bug her too much. I should candle them though because they were shipped eggs and I don't want her to be sittin' on a stinker! That's the only thing I'm a bit worried about. I would feel terrible if she sat on those eggs for 3 weeks and nothing came out! Poor girl just wants to be a momma! Other than that, I would think she'd do a better job than me and an incubator! If they don't look like there's any life in them I suppose I could just give her a couple more eggs from the incubator.

Hope those other two eggs of yours start showing signs of life!
