I've had several attacks on my coop lately. Attempts to dig under; attempts to pry a door, attempts to pull back the hardware cloth - even have some bent spots in the cloth.

I am putting out a trap tonight. I have no idea what may be doing this. I am thinking either fox or coon.

What do all of you use for bait in a trap? I am trying a can of tuna fish with a few holes poked in the top.

The .22 is ready for an early morning recon

LOL @ the .458 Dogfish. I was actually thinking of giving them a sporting chance and using my M40A5 (.308) built on a Surgeon Action with 24" Kreiger 1" barrel scoped with Schmidt & Bender SDSS. With my surgeon, I could give them a head start (read that as head shot) out to about 700 yards. If it is any further, then I will go to my .338 Lapua which I am comfortable out to about 1400 yards.

I've never shot a .458. Can't imagine it would be much different than a .50. I've shot a Barrett (BMG) bolt action with a 35" barrel at 2500 yards. Couldn't hit a darn thing with the kick - I flinched. I'll stick with my surgeon... trigger like butter and at 17.7# with a ported brake, it kicks only like a .223.

Any questions you might have about trapping can be asked at trapperman.com This site is a dream for anyone wanting to learn about trapping. All of the answers you get will be from prefessional trapers. They make thier living from trapping or at least supplement it. Heck, I might even be the one to answer your question there.

Why does this sound like your going to be dressed in camo, lying in the dirt, wearing night vision with bushes taped to your head waiting to shot something?

Heh it may be an aligator. don't you have them in Florida? Saw a beauty watching the golf today on TV. But shooting at poor little squirels? That is terrible.

dadgummitt... Could barely sleep all night in anticipation of catching what has been leaving tracks all around the coop/run. Wouldn't ya know it; the trap was not even tripped. GRRR
