this is only my second hatch and during the first one they all hatched while i wasn't home. so i've never really seen them start to finish. this one that has pipped isn't making any noise. is that normal? i do see the little piece of shell moving from time to time. the pip is on the side of the shell closer to the small end. the eggs are on their sides in paper muffin cups. shouldn't it be cheeping?

Is the pip more in the middle would you say? It sounds all normal so far. They rest. You have a pip, but you may not have that chick hatch until late tonight, or, morning...sorry...but...on a happier note, you could have another one pip, and be zipping and out of there before this chick that just pipped...whew..think I said pip a lot.
yeah i know they can take a while to zip but i've been in there every 5 minutes or so for several hours and haven't heard anything. i think last time they were cheeping even before they pipped. this pip is on the low side of the egg almost can't see it and it is more towards the pointy end. i'm sure i'm just being paranoid but i worry about everything.

I get up 4-5 times in the night and check them. I am so glad to have it happening towards the weekend. It is hard to teach middle school with no sleep.
Ok so I candled them all one last time and one of the gl wyandottes quite on me so I am down to 4 GLW, 6 SLW, 8 Speck. Sussex. Out of the 18 left I saw movement in 10 but the others may have been sleeping they looked to be the same as the ones I saw movement in. I am a little concerned there seems to be more space between the chick and the air sac then I expected to see at this point of developement. I layed all the eggs down and marked the tops with an x so if I have to I can turn them by hand but hopefully they can stay in lockdown and start hatching in 3 days. Humidity is being a little difficult fluctuating quite a bit between 55 and 70 but it may be my hygrometer, however I did the salt test on it again and it seems to be consistant with that. I am following the brinsea guidlines so hopefully it will be ok. Hope everyone has a successful hatch god luck to you all!!
