Setting clip on shrink wrap bags?

I LOVE the shrink wrap bags at cornerstone but i don't think I am setting the clip correctly. I purchased the cheapest tool (maybe a mistake) and it seems to close the clip with the sharp ends sticking out. I them wrangle the blasted tool to try to set the clip tighter and to fold the ends down. What am i
I doing wrong?

I use the skinny 3" zip ties.

Really? Cool idea. Is that airtight? Where do you make your air vent hole?

we used clips with the cheepy clip tool also.

i also struggled with getting it to "close" the staples right but found a reg set of needle nose plyers worked great after i had made the initial crimp with the cheep tool.

zip ties could be used.

we poked a hole in the bag with a knife at the feet (right below the staple) the instructions say poke a hole either way....
