Setting eggs 1-18-12. I need some buddies to keep me company.

That was a very light brown egg. My candler is a coffee can with a light fixture in the bottom. The egg was on day 8 there.

Candled last night on day 7.
Started with 23 eggs. 9 shipped and 14 silkie.
only 3 shipped eggs (OEG) are developing
9 silkies developing + the egg I dropped would have been 10

My daughter bumped me when I was candling and it fell out of my hand and hit the dresser....
I felt sooo horrible but used it as a teaching experience and showed my kids what they look like at 7 days.
My silkie eggs that are clear are all really porous to? I'm pretty certain they all came from the same hen and I'm thinkin not sheisn't right inside. She tends to lay amost every other egg as a full sized soft shell. I have a bowl of oysters free choice and all my other eggs are almost to hard! So its not lack of calcium causing it.... I bought her at a year old.

Candled my eggs, its day 11 and I have no idea what's going on in them! I candled at day 7 and got rid of the non viable eggs and it was really easy to see what was what! Now I don't have a clue... I guess its just 10 more days just see what happens! I will have another look just before lockdown I guess (this time next week).

I also have a hen going broody so if I can keep her that way she can have some chicks to rear if they come out of the incubator in one peice!

Slightly panicing that I don't know what is going on in those eggs!!!

It's hard to tell, most have veining and some sort of mass and air pocket bit, but I'm not really sure which ones are OK and which aren't developing! It doesn't help that they are a right mixture of eggs, so some are little bantams and some a huge Sussex eggs! I have a lot of Campines in there and apparently they tend to hatch a day or two early as well so the development of them seems to be a bit here and there!
What do you mean you can't see? Do you only see mass and air cell?

Day 11 for me also... halfway there!

I candled on Saturday.

5 of the Icelandic eggs looked real good,1 had veins but very little movement, and they other 2 I didn't see veining. So 6 of 8 are doing good.

I obviously need to use are brighter light for the Wellsummers Bantam brown eggs. On 3 of 9 I could make out veins and movement. The other 6 I really couldn't see into.

Today, day 11, one of the Welsummer eggs had a little dry ooz on the shell, so I removed and cracked open,it quit early.

Good luck everyone!

I'm joining this hatch buddy group too

. All of these are doing good, and are squirming around everytime I candle.

I originally set mostly pure Cochin, and a few Cochin/Orpington, but all the orpington eggs(same hen) quit on the first few days. So now i'm left with Cochins!
