Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

I just locked down 16 Ameraucana eggs on Monday! This will be my 3rd batch of eggs hatching. I've got a homemade incubator that seems to work pretty well. My first batch I had 8 EE &OE's hatch out of 14. My second batch I had 14 Silkies hatch out of 18. Of course that was after candleing and everything. I'm thinking that at least 8-10 of the eggs in right now are good. I also have 7 Sizzle eggs going as well. They will be on lock down in another couple of weeks. My kids love watching them hatch. We spend hours running in and out of the room they are in to check on them. Then when they look like they are coming out we have to stay and watch.

This sounds just like me at hatch time!! Good luck on your hatch this time, remember to take pics for us!

I set 48 eggs in my hovabator 1602n...I hand turn! I try and keep temp at 99.5 and humidity 40-50. But doesn't always work out that way...The humidity is high right now cuz I added water...should drop back down soon! I have 24 silkie egg, 15 polish crested , 6 buckeye, and 3 buff Brahmas . This is the first time I am trying to hatch purchased eggs. The PC are from my chickens..I haven't had them very long and this is my first try with their eggs! My 4th hatch! The first hatch resulted in 1 live chicken! (only 6 eggs) One of my cats knocked over the bator...others were pipping but the crash killed them! Next try I got 15 out of 28...I don't candle so don't know how many were viable...next I got 14 out of 21...Each time I have learned more! So hoping that I have a great hatch rate this time! I love these hatching threads...I'm in on 3 or 4 right now for this hatch! So please count me in !

Welcome! I think that Polish are my favorite of all the chickens, those are one of the breeds we have free ranging. When I am able to finally pen them separately, I am going to give my hand a go at that breed specifically. Those, seabrights, and cochins... love them! Baby cochins look like they put on pants that are WAY too big for them, and baby polish look like they've put on some crazy old lady's hat!

Love them

The polish are funny to watch...got them about a month ago..some guy was giving them away on craigs list...3 hens and a roo! they are about a year old. I got lucky...so excited to see them as baby chicks!

Well, I've managed to corral the incubator to hold 90... a few more degrees and I can set these darn eggs!

To top the day off, I came home to find one of my button quail playing dead. I don't know what her problem was- I moved her under the heat lamp because she was cold, and put a dish of water next to her. I sometimes wonder what is going on in their little brains, because I think she just stopped drinking. She drank and drank and drank AND DRANK for a good long time. She is still stumbling around a bit, but she is a lot more bright eyed than earlier, and I'll take stumbling over laying listlessly on the ground.... le sigh.

Tomorrow will be better!

I set 11 eggs on the 10th, I know I was a little early but I can still participate, right?

Nope that is fine! I am getting a new incubator tonight, and I should be setting mine tomorrow. I've decided my incubator is just plain broke. Welcome~
