Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

Just checking in to see how things are going for y'all :) Love the chick pics!

I'm still researching incubators- doing a lot of reading here. Wondering how many eggs a Reptipro will hold? By the time I got the temps set on this Hovabator I was almost ready to have a styrofoam bonfire in my drive way. I think we've got it now though...

Who ever set up the circtry / temp control on the mini was on magic mushrooms but aside from that I think it looks like the brinsea ones will be real nice to work with but I wont know for shur tell I get mine back and hatch a few batches. Give me a nice exscuse to hatch all year , have to work the kinks out of my new bator right.

Welcome to the thread those of you joining us! I am not getting my subscription emails like I should be *frown* so I didn't know this had updated. I don't know why. I am re-subscribing to things to see if that works.

I'm very excited for you guys! I am still waiting on the peafowl eggs from a fellow BYCer. It's been so hot lately that her birds have stopped laying for over a week now. Mine have thankfully not, but they've certainly slacked off a lot. I've been collecting eggs from my turkeys in anticipation, thinking of just setting them early and letting them hatch before the peafowl... but I don't want anyone getting pecky with anyone else once they are hatched so it's probably better to sit on my hands... great, the thing I am bad at doing!!

I'm getting close to when I will candle the quail eggs I set last week... fingers crossed they were still good after having to wait for me to get a new incubator!!

So today I went into my office/chicken room to feed the babies, and found one that had drown in the water dish. Very sad.

But it was the weekest so maybe it was just meant to be.....I still have some Sizzle eggs in the incubator that will go on lockdown Staurday.

I candled a few (5 or so) of my eggs on Thursday night. All the ones I candled had veining. I'll candle all of them tonight and get rid of any that don't have any veining. My "Binki-bator" seems to be running great. Steady temps (had to play with it a bit the first day after i put the eggs in, I've never done this many in it) and I'm hand turning my eggs. I just add water and turn my eggs at the same time. I figure momma hen gets up and walks away from the nest so opening my bator for 2 min shouldn't be a problem. Got lots of little jars of water to hold my temps steady while bator is open. One week down (almost)! I sure hope I get some babies to hatch this time! I'm really looking forward to see what the EE hen and BO roo produce. My EEs are both bearded so it should be interesting :)

rene-those reptipros look nice ... hope you get a nice one

tam-so sorry you lost your baby :(

skunk-i did the same thing last night...candled a few. some had obvious veining, others looked to have funky air cells and others looked clear, and about 1/2 are too dark to see anything inside. Its only day 6 so I'm not removing anything yet. will candle again at day 10

kedreeva-what kind of incubator did you end up getting ???

Thanks everyone. It was pretty weak and must have just fallen asleep in the water. Then a little later I kept hearing a chick in distress so I went to check on them. One of the new chicks was very upset. So I showed it the one that died and it hasn't done it since. Poor thing is sad though, it keeps stand and sleeping all by itself. This one and the one that died used to sleep together. Poor little baby.
