Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

I just logged on to find some hatching buddies! I set 18 barnyard mutt eggs around 9pm on Fathers' Day (06/17/12), so, they should be right with your 06/18/12 eggs. Yeah!!!! I'm so excited to have hatching buddies!

Welcome to the new peeps (of the human variety). I am a candling addict and all 11 of my eggies which were growing from the start of my hatch 10 days ago are moving and growing :D I just threw out the five which candled clear still, tonight. I figure 11 out of 16 is pretty good. I am not unhappy at all so far. I am almost to halfway there, so I am keeping the positive energy flowing to the little ones in those eggs. :D

How is everyone else doing??

I just locked down my 5 Sizzle eggs this morning. All had moving chicks when I candled last night. Now comes the really hard part.....the waiting!!

Good luck, Tamma! Waiting is agonizing, and the little boogers love to keep us in suspense.

Well, I had a few days away from the computer to go camping and it looks like everyone survived in the incubator :) Thank goodness mine pretty much takes care of itself while I'm not here. Welcome to the new people, and I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone on their hatches! It's been so hot here lately no one's wanted to lay anything- Although I did walk out this afternoon and even though it was 90+ and the sun was beating down with a vengeance, there was Osiris, my favorite peahen, laying stretched out on her side in full sun, on top of the BAKING HOT truck hood. I wish I could enjoy the heat that much!

The three littles ones in the incubator seem to be doing great. It is too stinking cute to see little feet flitting about inside the egg. I went ahead and ordered some barnyard mutt eggs. Watch - they'll probably do a lot better. It would figure. :)

I candled again, and only have three little egg babies out of the 23 that I set.  :(  I was hoping for better odds, but our post office is horrible. They put the eggs on the truck again, in the heat, despite us filing complaints in the past for killing chicks that way.  So much for call for pickup labels all over the boxes.

I'm trying to decide if I should risk buying more eggs, or buy chicks. There is a local farm that has chicks, but they're expensive at $8 each when you can't sex silkie chicks.  Hatchery chicks likely won't be good enough quality for 4H.  So do we risk buying more eggs by mail? I haven't seen any quality eggs locally. :eek:/

What kind of Eggs are you looking for? I live in Newcastle, Ca.. Not to far from you. I might have something your looking for. I don't always have the best luck with shipped eggs. I try to buy or trade local if at all possible. :). Molly

We'll see what we get with this next batch, but if they don't hatch many, we'll be looking for silkies or showgirls. We're hoping for at least one that is good enough for my daughter to use for 4-H.
