Setting eggs in incubator a day after first lot

Hi guys,

I was getting shipped eggs from a couple places. One arrived yesterday and was in a chiller box at 15 degrees to be stored and settle, one lot arrived today, but I wasn’t given tracking so was left in our mail box for about 1-2 hours and we’ve got really hot weather at the moment, so didn’t want to chill it and leave it in case they started developing. Sadly four eggs were also cracked and discarded from that lot. So I’ve warmed the first batch to room temp and popped them both into the incubator.

Now the issue is I’ve still got two lots of eggs that should arrive either tomorrow or the day after at the latest. I’ll also need to incubate them. I would’ve liked to have rested them 24 hours too. Is putting them in a day or two later going to be an issue? Three days if I let them rest? I’ve only got the one incubator so doing a truly staggered hatch is out of the question I guess! I dry incubate and then usually bump up to about 60% humidity.

Thanks in advance!

Many peeps are divided on the humidity values. You just do what works for you. You will have a staggered hatch, but just by a few days. I suggest you rest the eggs that will arrive, and add when you feel is appropriate. Then at lock-down,, increase the humidity to what you stated. 60%, and wait for the hatch. The extra few days the latecomers will be at the 60% humidity should not harm them. Another thing/suggestion;; Mark the eggs with a date like 1-12,,, 1-14, so you know that some will not hatch,(if they are very late) while some have just a little time left to hatch.
Your incubator temperature should be constant during complete incubation period.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

Thank you! I’ve marked the batches and know which eggs arrived on which days, so that’ll take care of that. Fingers crossed for a successful hatch this time, though not holding much hope for the ones with some broken, no box damage so may have been dropped? We’ll see.
