Okay, now I really need to see those chicks, because that dachshund is awfully cute!

I set my eggs at 10:30 last night, 16 of them....2 are guinea eggs and I will switch them to another bator closer to hatch time of my chickens....they are barnyard mixes....Worried about my humidity being too high as I did a semi dry hatch last night, but wanted to try with humidity this time to see which is gonna work better for my area.....Can't wait till Thrusday night so I can candle and see if I have any they are developing...

Hi Guys!!

Might I join you? I set my third hatch yesterday afternoon. Wanted to set Sunday but my previous hatch was taking FOREVER!

Aawww ItsA, those are such cute little guys, love the little brahma. I have not seen de ucle chicks before so will look forward to seeing them. I have some vorwerks set this time and can't wait to see what they look like.

My humidity has been running about 5% higher than my last hatch and can't figure out why, the only thing different is the eggs (sigh)

Nope.. you want lower humidity the first 17 days because some of the moisture needs to be lost from the eggs. It's only the last 3-4 days you need a higher humidity.

Here's a good link for you to check out

I also find that my hygrometer reads differently depending on where it is in the bator. The closer to the water pan, the higher the humidity reads

Be calm..

very little can kill them this early.. unless high high temps for long enough to raise the internal temp of the egg to "cook" it..

So do I need to take the water out of the trough or just leave it alone? I had put a little in to get it higher than 16%, which made it spike to 47% and the overnight last night is when it dropped....

Can I join you, too?! I started my first ever attempt to hatch chickens on Sunday, too! I made an incubator out my aquarium using foam insulation, lots of duct tape, a mini fan and a bottle lamp socket w/a dimmer. So far, it seems to be working out (maintaining temp and humidity).

BUT.... Has anyone candled their eggs yet? I tried last night using my massive "camping" flashlight- all of them have an obvious mass (the yolk?) but no visible blood vessels. Is that normal?? Are they duds? Or should I wait a few more days and check again?? How long before the air space is obvious?
