Setting Eggs On March 7, anyone else??

Sounds like the gage is wonky not you. Just check your water, and keep it at a certain level. I only need to add more every other to ever 3rd day. Don't panic. Just don't let it go dry for very long and too much water is not good either. The chicks can drown in their shells (been there and done that). Ive been hatching for 27 years. Long before the there was humidity reading. To be honest I had less problems before all the gadgets came out.
Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine.

That is not only creative, it is a great idea. A perfect way to hold a temp. Out standing!!!
Good luck on your hatch

I had a hard time this time with temp/humidity, I don't know if it's because I hatched in summer and was more hot and humid and now winter is more cold and dry. But I was getting very frustrated because I knew my eggs were coming. I couldn't get temp to 99.5-100.0 F and when I finally got temp right the humidity was wrong. I messed with it for 2 days finally got it or I hope so for dry incubation, it was 99.7 F and 37% humidity. Then I put the eggs in and I know the temps drop because of the eggs but now it's all wrong again. Hopefully it goes back so I don't have to panic.

2" x 2"x 1" food storage container..I had a sponge in it but took it out when it went to 80%; it has been holding pretty steady in the mid 60's since then. I am going to go to the pet store that sells reptiles and see what they have an buy a second one different brand and see what its says.

I'm getting better every lovely pre-spring day, now that this winter's fibromyalgia flareup has subsided. I am *so* eager for these new chicks to hatch! Several of them will be the third generation of my blue-egg Silkie-X project, which this year is expanding to include porcelains, partridge, and buffs as well as the original splash. If I should get an extra Splash rooster, I'll choose the most typey one and start a BBS pen with him (since I bought several blue chicks recently).

Must stop now, before I run on for several pages. Hope your hatch is a great one. I'll keep looking for you in the thread! Go, chickies, go!

Just set 8 English Orps and 7 Isbars! I am so excited! This will be my 3rd hatch this year. I am hatching in my Brinsea Eco 20. I love this little incubator.

Hi Cattitude! I believe with did a hatch together last summer! How are you doing?

humidity is all about surface area of the water. so a jar with a 4" opening will have a certain humidity (despite its depth) - and a 8" sponge will have a higher humidity.

when i had a styrofoam bator or the eco 20 i only kept one well filled at a time. if humidity is too high try decreasing the surface area of the water, and or opening a vent. then at hatch time just add a sponge or two as needed.

i just got the brinsea ova easy- had problems with the humidity (dont have the pump) so sponge came out and see the picture below the white thing is the water tray. so i would just fill it so the middle well was full and vents closed.

now that i am hatching i have it full with the sponge in it. once this hatch is done i will take the sponges out and go back to reg humidity lvls. its a learning process. will great rewards.

this is what i have in the bator set yesterday
