I candled yesterday all the eggs at day 6 or 7. I get confused, I think it is day 6 since the first day I put them in shouldn't count.

Looks like I have 21 out of 27 eggs developing! I marked the ones I think are duds but I am still going to leave them for a few more days just encase, I was iffy on a few of them.

It looks like I have 13 out of 19 developing. I marked the ones too that I think are not developing. It will be interesting to candle them again in a few days. I was iffy on more than a few. I can't wait until I am more familiar with what I am looking at.

I just hatched out 5 polish and three Welsummers.

) Never thought I would ever end up having Polish, quite the different looking chick! My grandkids are going to love this.

Now, I have 16 Orpingtons, and 14 more Welsummers..love the Welsummer! Such a sweet calm bird. Not sure how the Polish will be. The coloring is interesting...blue/white crested, a black/white crested, and two look silver, not sure if that is called a silver or a lavendar? Anyway, I have two of those, white/ crested... Love the colors.

I am excited for the Orpintons..hoping they work, got them from a long ways off from where I am. I had and Orpington..love the eggs and mine was very friendly.

Going to look up crested Polish now...the person that sent them said the kids like to call them rock star chickens. Sounds good to me, I have a lot of grandchildren that will love them, and, I see that the eggs are really nice sized!

Sorry no pics. Can't seem to do it, even with photo bucket. ?????

I need some help, this is the first time hatching. I know I need a brighter light but I did use a led light with 6 leds and I can't see any veins but I can see the air sac at the top (big end) and I can see what looks like a blob kinda in the middle of the egg. So is this normal or what and what should I see at 14 days? I'm using a Hova Bator with a fan & turner, temps have benn from 99.3 to 100.5 and humidity has been at 30 to 45%. I'm trying the dry method as I read this is a little better and I check humidity twice a day.

I gotta get a good candler but is this normal?

Forgot to post the Kinder Major candled her eggs last Wednesday. We set seventeen, two were clear, one is maybe going to be a blood ring but we're not certain yet, the rest were developing. We'll candle again tomorrow night. Still looking good for a hatch on the 16th or 17th.

I nearly have the brooder renovations completed. We moved it to a different workbench so that we can access both sides. This will make it much easier to clean and put the feed and water in.

I candled again today. 10 definite live ones- some much more active then others but clear movement in all 10 eggs. 2 possible late deaths (didn't see movement and they are not quite as big as the other 10) and 4 doubtful's and this is after I already removed the 3 unfertile ones. But I am happy if I have 10 eggs out of original 19 to put in lock down. I didn't know I was supposed to be rotating the eggs prior to incubating and most of them sat in a paper egg carton for a week without movement while I gathered enough to set. I don't know how I missed that bit of information while I was reading about incubating.

I have some bad news.

My husband and I have to be out of town the day the eggs go into lock down and won't get back until Monday evening. They should be hatching on Monday. I ordered a Brinsea 20 Advance and it arrived today. I am going to transfer the eggs from my aquarium incubator to the Brinsea for lock down. The aquarium takes too much monitoring and since I won't be here during the hatch

to watch anyways, I might as well put them in the Brinsea where they will have a more constant temperature and humidity. I just hope that they don't all hatch before I get home. I'm thinking of using 100 degrees with 75-80% humidity for hatching. I read I should hatch them at 100.5 but I thought if it was a little cooler they might hatch a little slower and wait for me.

I will have someone come by the house and check them every morning and evening to make sure temp and humidity are holding steady and to give me updates on the eggs.

robnms: I was using a LED Light with 6 Leds and then my husband gave me one of his flashlights that just has one bright bulb in it and it actually worked better than all the LED lights. Thanks for the chart too. I had found it on here where else too and am using it. But my temperatures have been all over the place and I decided to use a lower humidity 35-45%

A.T. Hagan: Good luck with your candling tomorrow night. Let us know how it turns out.

Cynthia12: Congratulations on your new hatch! I need to go look up Polish. I'm not sure what they are.....

I have 11 hatched out of 16 so far. Since I only have 2 young hens, I can't wait to put them in the incubator all at once. Let hope the remain 5 eggs hatch by the end of this week.
