Setting Egg's on Oct 26th! Anybody else???

A.T. Hagan :

Came home from the county council meeting last night to find the first pip in the Kinder Major's Silkie eggs. When I got up at 5:30 this morning the first one was already out. Interestingly enough it wasn't the one that had pipped last night. I expect we'll have a few more by tonight and all of the rest by tomorrow night. She is stoked!

I have silkie eggs on the way for my next go around..... I hope I have half as much luck with the shipped eggs. Where your silkie eggs shipped?

19 of my 22 eggs have hatched I am still weighting in the other 3. Most of them are pure breed Black Australorps and a few are Aussie mixes, but I can't tell them apart cause the mixes look the same as the pure breeds.

As of seven o'clock this morning the Kinder Major had ten chicks hatched with four eggs left to go. One of which was pipped. It was very damp and cool this morning so we'll wait until this evening to move the ones that are dry and fluffy into the brooder. The very first one out looks like it might be a nice looking splash.

UPDATE on Orpingtons....9 out of the 16 hatched..and they came all the way from Pennsylvania! hinkjc sold them..was worried about them coming this far..to Utah..but glad I took the chance..the weather was great at the time, but it's so cold now, I wouldn't dare try getting eggs now..only 9 degrees out there this morning! I'm thinking I will be ordering more from hinkjc this spring if they are selling!
My babies are adorable. Thank you to hinkjc for selling "very" fertile eggs! The chicks are really healthy too. No feet problems, no leg problems, no eye problems.

Sorry about the delay in responding! I had 7 out of 10 that went on road trip hatch. 6 healthy and no problems, last chick to hatch a day after the others was shrink wrapped and also came out with one foot with toes curled. But she/he is doing great now and gets along okay on funny foot.

Not doing as good on the shipped Silkie eggs! Only one developing out of the 10 eggs set. Not sure what I am going to do with one silkie chick.

You can fix the curled toes easily. We use duct tape! Straighten out the toe, wrap the bad ones once straight, but not too tight. We changed the tape every other day, for 4 days. Nice toes now! That was with a hatch a while back. This tape didn't cause irritation, probably because we changed it. We also made sure that we kept a hard surface for a while, no cedar for about a week. Really helped I'm sure.
Might want to give it a try.
Sorry you aren't having as good a hatch with the Silkies..maybe you will see something soon?
Good luck on everything, and congrats on the good hatch!!

You can only straighten out the toe in the 1st few days after hatched while it still soft.
