Setting Eggs on the 27th...

Great news! I candled my eggs today and it looks like 10 out of 15 eggs are starting to develop!

I am hatching silkie eggs! It's my favorite breed of chicken! They are such nice chickens... even the roosters are sweethearts!

I would LOVE to hatch duck eggs someday, but at the moment I don't have much room for them. Hopefully in the future! :)

I do a dry hatch during incubation. What humidity do you keep it at? I leave mine at about 40% until lockdown and then I raise it to about 80%. That method seems to work well with me. I used it for all of my hatches. It's just so much easier to keep the humidity at 40% than to stress 24/7 about it being higher than that.

That is great news . I just candles mine and it seems like the farm have me non fertile ggs. Two cracked so I am down to ten eggs. It doesn't seem like any eggs are fertile but I am going to keep them in till Friday to see if anything progresses. I am soo disappointed.

Mine is at 44 %humidity and staying at 100 degrees. Last year I did a dry hatch accidently and made the humidity go up
On lock down which I think is why non of the eggs hatched because it might got too hot in the shells.

I am just disappointed....

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that!

Remember for still air incubators the temp should read 102 at the top of the eggs. Maybe your temp is too low and they are just growing slowly?

Fingers crossed for you!

I went from 12 to 10 eggs over night due to hairline cracks.

I just recandled and it seems like that the 10 eggs were all fertile.

But more bad news....

3 of the 10 eggs had hair line cracks...and were fertile so I took them out in the garbage because i read that eggs with hairline cracks can explode. So I'm down to 7 eggs that seem fertile but not sure due that they are are brown eggs. I do see blood veins but i'm not sure if its the good kind or the bad kind... (Not sure if its a ring...or just my imagination hoping that they are fertile. My eyes seem to play tricks on me these days. Sooo I am down to 7 eggs from my 12 eggs... I am soo disappointed and angry at the farm that I got them from.

First off, I just want to share a site with you that eases my anxiety whilst hatching eggs. Hopefully you can find it helpful in some way.

How on earth do your eggs keep on getting hairline cracks?!

The site I mentioned above has pictures of what you "should" see inside the egg on certain days so you should compare what you saw to theirs.

Just keep on keepin' on. Only time will tell. I'm sure if you see the veining, its the good kind. :)

I would definitely mention something to the farm. Maybe they'll replace them? You never know!

Thanks for the link. I guess I just didn't candle when I first got them. I candled some eggs (not all) and candled all last night. So i found them to have cracks. :( oh well. The farm has a no return policy or any policy of any kind when it comes to fertile eggs. I think the next time I get eggs i might call someone else that has a dozen for $5.00 instead of 7 so i could get 2 dozen eggs for $10 (not $14.)

i think the veining is the good kind. i haven't seen any rings...knock on wood. but I'm not counting them to hatch just yet.
The past chicks made it to lock down and died in shell. I just have to keep up with putting water in the incubator every 3 or 4 days or so.

Any updates on your eggs? Have you candled? I just candled and of the five that I thought were not developing I found a live one! The rest I ended up finally throwing out. I had a spike in temp last night and I'm struggling to get it to steady. I really hope they'll be okay. =\

Hey Dreamer! Thanks for asking. I just recandled and all 7 eggs are fertile!!!!!!
Yey...

so far i made it 1 week or 7 days. I put my 12 eggs in last Friday 2pm. :)
Even though I lost 5 eggs I'm still pleased that I have 7 fertile eggs. I have not forgotten to add water this time during the hatch. my latest water adding was this morning at 2am when the humidity got down to 30% and it jumped to 42%. I'm not sure what it's supposed to be during the hatch, so if someone can tell me that would be great!!

Update: I just recandled and saw the embryo's moving inside!!! Also the temp of the incubator was 104!!!! so i lowered the temp. wow. i hope everything is still ok. Not sure how long it was 104.

I keep getting the incubator spikes like crazy! It worries me! Right now it's only 99 in the incubator, but better low than high, right? Haha I woke up this morning to it being 104 and yesterday I woke up to 103!

During lockdown/the hatch the humidity needs to be 75% to 80% I believe. That's what I aim for anyway.
