We have LOCKDOWN!
I am so excited...saw movement in all 14 remaining eggs!
My husband could even see the FUTURE in each egg...he could see himself building a new coop

Good reason to put him to work!
How far are you from Karen? Maybe you could ask her if she has any 'pet quality' as you just want a couple for you kids as pets??? She might have some that have DQ's and breeding faults that she will be willing to part with for family pets?
And trust me Karens pet quality will be better than most peoples 'quality' anyway... Worth a try to ask...
But can I say that I am wayyyyy jealous that you even live in the same state as Karen and could
Possibly visit her place...
I think I will take a road trip down with my daughter. See what's available.
Have you checked Craigslist? Here is a list for the Tacoma/Seattle area. I don't know where you are but that is your county.

There are some pretty cute ones there on the list. Even a cheap incubator!

I tried to call one that is about 20 minutes from me on craigslist, but never heard back. I keep checking...

Maybe hand them out for Halloween treats! Yeah ....thats a GOOD idea!
Kids will cry when MOm says no and they will get to keep them!

you know there a few folks down here that advertise to hatch other eggs in there incubator. but they want a dollar for each egg. i'll try to see what i can send ya some parts and bunch of bandaid boxes to help you along. LOL

On some I used Picasa and I believe that is a free photo edit program. I would just do a google search for free photo editing programs. I actually have a really good one from Creative Memories called Memory Manager. It's uber cool but it's not on my laptop and that's where these pictures were downloaded too. Thank you I just love my subject matter,

Thanks for letting me know about the free editing software. I found some similar to adobe photoshop and is having a blast with editing my chicken photos for the club contest.

Around here they charge $1 also. 50 cents to set the egg and then 50 cents for each chick hatched. It's really not a bad deal when you think about it. You give someone a dozen eggs and pay them $6 to set the eggs. In less than a month you go back and pick up, let's say, 10 chicks. Pay them another $5 and you are done. No worrying about temps, humidity, power outages, etc. The best part is is you only wanted 5 chicks you can turn around and sell the other 5 for $2-$3 each(more if they are a rarer breed) and you get $10-$15. The excess chicks pay for the entire process. Plus you don't have to deal with the clean up afterward.

Is there any reason that Silkie eggs are harder to hatch than others? The one silkie egg we hatched (got it from a friend) did take a while to get out of the egg and was a bit wobbly for a few days after! Is i
Is it just that they're so small, or is it because they're eggs are different or something?

I have no clue. I have just read it over and over. Maybe because of their small size? I set 12 local eggs last hatch. 10 went into lockdown and only 4 hatched. This time around I started with 24 shipped eggs and on Day 9 we are down to 17. I had 2 questionable ones when I candled on day 6 and left them in. Last night when I went to set my Serama eggs I candled them again and there was a bloodring in one and the other was a quitter.

that sounds a lot better..they just said a dollar to just set and hatch the egg.

Ive thought of this too but what if they dont understand about shipped eggs, low hatch? .Buy them and you hatch then they think you cheated them out of chicks. And if they get zero and paid for eggs they may scream a LOT. I guess they could sign something to the effect that hatch isnt guaranteed It wasnt worth it to me b/c of that.People are all different One person would be ok.... the other have a fit if they aLL didnt hatch I did advertise that i would sell chicks and if anyone had a certain kind they wanted i would try and hatch some. No commitment. Did get left with one BR though Gal wanted 2 then when i just had one she got miffed.Didnt take it said she was too busy to have them She knew when they would hatch... emailed me the week before! . Llike i said..... ppl.
