Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Thank you for those who replied. I'm not returning to that thread, nor am I returning to the other areas of the forum. I couldn't resist being back to THIS specific thread when I found out from a very nice member who gave me specific instructions on how to log in, go to another member's page, and block them. They said I won't be able to see their posts anymore, so for me that is the obvious route I will take (see no evil, hear no evil). I wish I would have known about that option before...but I'm glad I know about it for future reference. SO I'm back (only on this thread as it is my favorite thread) and maybe in a few weeks time I'm stretch my legs out like a chick does..lol..and venture out into the big world of the rest of the forum. :)

My eggs are doing really well tonight (except the one I broke initially, still sad about that little egger). All day today the temp hung around 101 (it's a still-air incubator so I'm told 101 is good). The humidity is at 53%...which I think is good too. I turned them 5 times today and shut the light off in that room around 9pm. My Brinsea Octagon 20 arrived today as well, but I really don't want to move the eggs, so I guess I will just use that one the next time around.

My husband and I are freezing our tushies off at certain times of the day, and roasting half to death at other times of the day, all for the sake of regulating the air in the bator room, but it's all worth it for fluffies to pop out next month!

I will tell everyone this (because none of you know me yet). I will never have thick skin, and I will never attempt to have thick skin, nor will I ever remotely desire to have thick skin. Having squishy skin is what makes me happy, and bouncy and chipper and cheerful and nice to everyone (unless they're nasty to me). I'm clay on a wheel, and if clay gets too thick - you pretty much can't do anything with it. I don't want to be thick clay.

I apologize if my bubbly, chatty, giggly personality is offensive, but now you know you always have the option to block me!

I'm happy to be back and I'm not going anywhere ( I missed the people on this thread too much anyway, so I'm glad I was told about blocking, solves the problem.)

HOW ARE EVERYONE'S CLUCKIES?? Anything pipping, popping, hopping, beat-boxing, peepin' shell-push? I'll go through the recent posts and see.

Sounds like there are quite a few silkies being hatched out this run, I think? They are lovely.

One of the breeders I received my eggs from, sent me an extra four eggs that look nothing like any of the others and they are larger. But, she said all of the eggs have a 50% chance to hatch a frizzle. I'm wondering what on earth could be in the big eggs that might be frizzled? I e-mailed and asked her, but her only reply was "Chicken hatching is fun, let those ones be a surprise, how I hope they hatch for you."
Now I'm super curious as to what they are.

hovabator with fan and egg turner what do you suggest humidity I read on hear first 18 days 45-55 lockdown 65-75. my humidity stays around 49-50 and heat steady 99.5 Am I doing this right?
  • It really depends on what the humidity is in the house (environment.) Here in Florida my house stays around 50-55% humidity all the time. The humidity in my bator stays around 35% all by itself. If it does happen to drop below 25% I will add just enough water to bring it back up into the 30's. At lockdown I add enough water to maintain the humidity at 55-60%. Aything over that and my chicks are born soaking wet and take hours to dry. This article is one of the ones that changed my hatching ways: DRY INCUBATION It made a lot of sense to me and my chicks now dry in a matter of an hour or two and they are no longer sticky when the hatch.

Set 14 silkies in the incubator ... crossing my fingers , toes and everything else..hoping for a good hatch..
So glad you joined us. What day did you set your eggs? I just hatched 4 Silkies a few days ago and I am really thinking about getting some more. They are just too cute when they hatch.

So glad you decided to stay on board. I am like you in that if someone offends me I will fight until the last man is standing. I have learned that when something or someone says/does something that upsets me I literally take a step back and ask myself if this is really going to matter to me in a days time, a week, a month and then a year. Looking at "problems" this way has helped me to lead a less stressful life and my whole outlook on life has changed dramatically. Usually when I ask myself that question the answer 9/10 times is "NO." So I say to myself, "Then why are you letting it bother you."

How exciting for your mystery hatch!!! Some pictures of the eggs would be great. Then maybe we all can start guessing as to what they might be. It will be very interesting to see.
