Lol, hope I get more pullets than cockrels ! Will be interesting to see how it works out. Have been reading on Mother Earth news an article that said, more rounded eggs are pullets, more pointed eggs are cockrels, may all just be old wives tales, will be interesting to see what I get from this hatch.
Heard that round egg thing before on here too but a few ppl said theirs hatched and it wasnt true so maybe true only sometimes HAHA
Found the temp male correlation interesting so looked up some articles about studies on the web ...found one said lower temps more males. but nothing was totally really conclusive on any.Was only a hypothesis.DID say in humans the testes keeps the sperm cooler . Why its all outside the body so who knows...maybe there is something about the heat
.Dont think it is while the egg is forming though as one site said "sex is predetermined in the chicken egg. "
Did find a few other things of interest.
Eggs 7-10 days old you will get a decreased hatch.. 3 weeks old forget it!! ZERO
.
Male determines the sex? I would think it did just as in humans, dogs etc.
Also interesting one said that once fertilized the embryo begins to grow at anything over 67degrees! .My point has to do with shipped eggs..
.Unless its early spring when it isnt over 67 degrees in a big metal truck at any time the embryo is getting arms legs heart etc...the whole time its being shipped and jogged around ...gets all the basics the first 4 days. if growing.however shouldnt go below 40 degrees either....It will die...
No wonder so many die later ....scrambled cells while shipped and growing too
.
Also rough treatment even picking up and turning i guess said can unloosen veins in the egg causing death of the chick,. I gotta be more gentle i think..!
Maybe the problem is ME!!!
