Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

One of our feed stores around here has year round chicks that come from Ideal. I think I will go see if they have any bantams. They will be young and small enough to be a good companion.

I hope they have some! .

I am having issues with the new incubator getting past 60 humidity. Get the feeling this is going to be disastrous hatch.
Add some wet hot sponges to the rack (I cut one in strips about an inch wide and use two pieces), that will shoot the humidity up fast.

Well, my hatch didn't go well. I started with two dozen eggs and got one live chick. She is quite beautiful though!!!

I am worried about trying to raise a single chick. Any tips on that? Her closest siblings are 4 weeks and she is just too tiny to put in with them.
So sorry to hear that the others didn't hatch. Put a mirror and a stuffed animal and/or feather duster in the brooder with her to keep her company. I would seriously try to find 1-2 day old chicks and buy her a playmate. I bought 3 chicks that were a week old when I hatched my singleton to keep her company and she did well even though they were 5 days older than her.

I have blue Opringtons that look like that too - should I include so Brookshaven has more to babysit?

WOW what a gorgeous hen!!!

Just an update: Am coordinating going down to meet Catdance and pick up a couple of Silkies or hatching eggs with my daughter.

Thanks everyone for the good luck you wished on me. I was able to get a little silkie baby for my hatchling as a companion. You know they were awfully cute and they even had a couple with vaults which surprised me. They were a little older or I would have gotten them. I bought this one because it was the tiniest in the group and it is even a tad bit smaller than mine, so fingers crossed this works out. S/He was the only one of this color which looks almost like a lavender to me. The vaulted babies were white and if I think too hard on it I may go back down there tomorrow and buy them since I don't have any white silkies right now.

First pictures shows the color and it running away from my camera, the second shows my little girl giving it the stink eye! Ha! Ha! Ha!
