Setting eggs today, 6-30-12...anyone else want to join in the fun???

I have two confirmed babies! Two little fluffy butts have shown themselves to me. Hooray!

Momma isn't letting me see anything else though. Saturday I have plans to clean out the shells and such as much as she'll let me. I remember there being some mess from all the hatching last time.

And, Smudgie is still with us!!! She had a really rough patch yesterday afternoon and I really thought we were going to lose her, but she pulled through it and seems to be on a little upswing again. Not that she's anywhere near out of the woods yet. Please keep her in your hearts... she seems to really want to stay and my daughter loves her so, so much.

Tell your mamma hen she's done good and give her some treats! Please post pics too! And thanks for pulling for Smudgie. I showed my daughter your post and I could see it helped her to know others are pulling for Smudgie too!

So happy to hear your good news

I'm still waiting for the zip to start and for some of my other eggs to pip.

Be sure to post pictures after hatching...

I am right there with you!!! This is the part of hatching that always drives me nuts! I have checked my Andalusian eggs probably 100 times today and not a single pip yet. I have 11 that looked great at lockdown. Hurry up eggs!!! Argh... they really are driving me nuts!!!

I didn't realize how spoiled I was! I have hatched several batches of my own eggs this year. I can just about set my clocks by when they hatch as they are so predictable. My bantams would start pipping during the 19th day of incubation and all of them would be out by the time 20 full days were done. My reds were exactly one day behind... first pips during 20th day, all out before 21 full days had passed since I set them.

So... I have just finished the 20th full day of incubation. By now I would have had reds pipping. These Andalusians that I waited so long just to get the eggs are sitting there doing NOTHING!!! I keep telling myself to stay calm, blah, blah, blah. I also have to remind myself that due to the power outage they may be behind. But... just because I KNOW these things doesn't seem to make the waiting easier! I confess... I am really not very good at waiting. (Bet you never would have guessed!

My Muscovy egg is still just pipped too. That one isn't bothering me as it's only on day 33 and they are supposed to hatch around day 35. The guy I got them from told me most of his hatch between day 35 and 40, so I feel ahead of schedule on that one!

Keep us posted on your little pip!

Ok, I have four babies so far. There are two more eggs that are showing promise, pips have started. I have one blonde baby, one cream and black (barred rock), and two of these little cuties. Anyone know breed the little one is? I'm clueless at the chick stage.

Such an exciting week. Congratulations to all that have babies and pips already. And I big hug to Smudgies family for taking such good care of her. Hope she is on the mend now for good.

I put mine on lock down late late last night. I candled one more time and I am pretty sure only 5 are still good, but my husband, the optimist that he is thought that I should leave the questionable egg in there. It clearly has a red ring of death and looks cloudy. But I did as he asked. LOL A couple of the eggs are just odd...the shape of where the chick is and how the air sac is just looks odd, but those were ones that had displaced sacs. There was movement in them so I am hoping they will still hatch.

I think I have mentioned before that I have two broody hens in the coop. I tried to move them down to a box on the ground so they could sit on some of these eggs I have in the incubator. They would have nothing of it. One is in a box about 2 feet off the ground, another is in a box about 4 feet off the ground. So I hesitate to let them sit there because it is just not safe nor accessible to the chicks after they hatch. So my neighbor offered some of her barn yard mix eggs again, just to satisfy them and let them start the three week process...hoping that in three more weeks the hens using the crates will have moved their babies to roosts. I am just not sure if I want to do that. It is so hard when they are broody, they want so badly to be mommas. I hate to deny them that...I hate they they just sit and don't lay eggs. Arrrgggh

So I hope everyone has a great hatch and posts lots of pictures. :)

Could be an Easter Egger. They usually have that chipmunk look too them. Sure is cute whatever it is. :) Congratulations!!!!

Thank you for sharing your set up! You've done a great job!!!

Too bad you're not close to me... I'm just barely outside of northern VA.

Thank you :)

Today is hatch day (day 20) 7 of 15 so far...I got a blue australorp today. I was hoping that would happen :)

My first zip - but no chick yet
hmm.png
do they take a rest before they pop out of a zipped egg?

The little zipper is chirping which is such a lovely sound....
