This is what my leghorns did! The first two never did make it...the third (on the next hatch) was helped out of the shell by me. I think all three could have made it with better conditions. They (my leghorns) like to hatch last. Opening the incubator several times messed up the first two (pretty sure)Well it is 10:25am and that chick is still working on it. It is doing an odd thing, instead of zipping it is like it is trying to make that pip area bigger. It has basically pipped three times in the same little area...not in a line. I can hear it chirping though and it is wobbling, so I am not going to help at this time. It pipped only 11 hours ago, so it still has a lot of time. Nothing from any of the others. Hope they pip and get on to hatching soon.![]()
It could be that for some reason the chick is having trouble turning. I did a lot of reading about hatching the muscovies, and one of the reasons they have trouble hatching is because of not loosing enough weight during incubation. That causes them to be too big to move in the shell. The whole point of humidity during incubaton is to control the moisture loss of the egg. The lower your humidity, the greater the weight loss and also the reverse.I wonder why they do that?? I had a few on a batch once that were basically breach, not sure how they managed that because in my brinsea incubators they spend the first 18 days upright and the cradle moves the whole incubator back and forth. But they got them selves piping on the small end. I had to help them, they were was no way they could move in a circle. this one has pipped in the right place. Wonder if having a detached air sac has anything to do with it? I this is the only one that had a detached sac that grew. If I quit seeing movement or cant' hear it chirp anymore later today I will try to help it out. I really hate opening the incubator though...we are in a very dry climate and probably only have 20-25% humidity in our house.
