Setting eggs today (7/20), anyone else?

I have 2 bators running with staggered hatches and I am afraid to candle mine so I will wait a few more days....

One of my eggs got broken under the broody so I've still got 13 under her but haven't candled. It will be a surprise in more ways than 1 I'm sure! Hope everyone else's is going well.

I just went in to turn mine for the last time today and noticed I had another egg that was leaking and had dried sticky stuff on it. Also there was a good size crack . I took it out. i am wondering what made it crack? i never dropped it or anything like that. Does anyone have any ideas as to why a egg would crack on it's own? Anyhow that only leaves me with 5 BCM now. Hope the rest of them make it.

Did the egg stink? A build up of gases might have made it crack - but I would think it would have stank.
Even though my hatches are staggared by a couple days I'm going to lock the whole thing down now. I've been going with a dry incubation so I don't think the extra humidity is going to hurt them for two days.

I haven't had much luck hatching BCM eggs - I hope you get 5/5

No, I don't think I smelled anything. The last one that oozed did. This is my second attempt at BCM. My last 12 totally failed. Maybe that's why they are expensive, not because they are rare. i have no hard time finding the eggs to buy, just no luck hatching them. i wonder if the other Marans are so hard to hatch out?

kagedgoddes, does your nanna have chickens?

2 more days, then I remove the egg turner. I am no good at candleing. I don't know if I should try it again (candleing) when I take the turner or not. None smell or have moisture on them, so is that good enough?

I got 2 Cuckoo Maran eggs from that pen. I think I will just have to try hatching them! I will wait til the end of the week to put them in (to see if I have more eggs!)

Good luck to all !

Got up this morning to 4 chicks so far. Looks like three blue silkies and a dark gold colored mix.

I also took six eggs out and put them under my broody serama. She is a good mama and this is like the fourth time she has gone broody this year. I let her raise one chick the first time, but broke her the other two times. It has come down to the point of if you can't lick 'em, join 'em.
