Setting Eggs Today

Today, I set my first batch of eggs for the year. I am so excited!

They are in my trusty little Hova-Bator. Though, I hope to have a newer 'bator in time for the next setting.

Here is the official count:

LF Black Ameraucana - 13 eggs
Bantams (SS Hamburg x Spitzhauben, SS Hamburg, and Mille Fleur d'Uccle) - 20 eggs
Other Large Fowl - 3 eggs


Yes, I realize that it is an odd little assortment, but not many hens are laying yet

I use to raise the silver spangled hamburg in standards. The hens were pretty good layers except when strangers walked through the hen house. It would upset them and make them quit laying. If free grazing they need very little grain. Them and Lakenvelders will forage for most of their food.

Congrats!! I just set 12 Easter Eggers today. I had some difficulty with some of my hatches last year so I am trying it out after making some adjustments. Put in 5 green, 4 pink, and 3 brown, so its a pretty rainbow clutch.

Hatch: MARCH 1
