setting eggs tonight!! anyone else?

This is the box my youngest sister suggested we bury him in.

Even in moments of sadness, she never ceases to make me laugh. :)
Layna, I'm so sorry about your struggling little guy. I would probably wrap him up in a little flannel blanket (with a hand warmer on the bottom) and hold him too.

When we lost one of our silkie chicks (10 months ago) to our dog, we had a burial for it. The kids were so serious and sweet in there intreaties about the chick. Their converstion went something like this: "He was just so young!" "Yes, but he no longer feels any pain." "And, he is in a better place." Although I was crying as I watched their sadness I had to turn away so they wouldn't see me grin!
I now have 10 eggs in the bator. I decided to remove egg #8 from the incubator...It's the one that I thought quit! When candling it was so small compared to the other Day 15 eggs. And, I hadn't seen movement since Day 12. I wanted to do an eggtopsy in order to see WHEN it stopped developing. I'm wondering if it just got too cold in a cool spot and died. It looks like about Day 10...what do you think? Do you see the beak and wittle feet?

He's gone. We are about to bury him. He was barely breathing and his heart was barely beating. My dad went ahead and "did the deed" And brought him back to me in a box.

What a cute story about your chicken funeral! Kids are so sweet. It's amazing how much they mimic adults isn't it?

What a beautiful picture! It looked like a chicken! I love life. :)

I was so much looking forward to your comment, Cali. You always make me feel better when I'm freaking out. =P

I'm so sorry this happened, poor little chick. I'm glad you have your family to help you.

Me too! I don't know what I would do without them. They're pretty awesome. ;)

We had ourselves a nice little funeral. My little brother played his guitar all the way up to the "burial site" and then back down to the house. They were so sweet.
My baby cousin is over playing with the "baby chi-chins" right now.

CayuseRanch did you do a float test? If your temp was down consistantly you just might need to wait a couple days

LaynaDon95 I'm so sorry about your little guy. Such a bummer he made it out but couldn't stay. I floated several of mine today and opened the ones that didn't move and they were dead but fully formed, they just never pipped.

I helped 5 zip before we left for a movie and #16 popped out as soon as we got home & looks fine. The others are still alive buuut.....I'll be up with them tonight. I don't want to intervene more but I will in a couple hours if the veins I can see, shrink. I'm just not willing to find them still in the morning. Cross fingers for them.

I am 10 hours into hatch day, still no peeps, pips, zips or chicks. I have not done the float test, in fact never have. May have to look that one up. The temps in the incubator have been consistently at 99.5 I haven't had any temp problems. Only time it was down was when I would try and candle, which I didn't do very often because I knew I wouldn't see anything.

i'm right there with you i'm not gonna do anything until day 25

Now I'm officially on day 22. 2 pips, one at the wrong end. Lots of chirping, lots of rocking.

I have 9 eggs in the bator. Dad is Barred Rock, hens are Golden Comets and I cannot wait to see what color(s) these babies are!

We are having a terrible wind and rainstorm right now, and I'm praying we don't lose power.

I am by no means a color expert but I think barring is dominant so you should have all barred chicks with some gold leakage. You may be able to sex them when they hatch based on spot on head though.
