I have a little bantam hen that decided to sit on eggs in the heat, she has 3 fertile eggs (not hers). Since the weather is hot, I put a frozen bottle in the coop near by by not too close, and there is a wood rail divider to keep bottle from rolling towards eggs. Bottle will be replaced daily.

on the outside of her coop I have propped up boards to keep the sun from beating down on her coop too hard.

Not sure, but even with out the water bottle, or propped boards, she was not panting. Also the sun doesn't beat down all day long, there is some shade.
