Hello to all!! I am very glad I found this site. It has been a long time since I had chickens. Where I am building the run and coop is located in a primarily shady spot. Has anyone here noticed any difference in their chickens when they live in shade most of the time?

Welcome to BYC!

We have shade on 2 sides of our coop and run. It's nice to have, especially with all our hot weather. If you live some place that gets heavy snowfalls, you might end up with broken tree limbs on your coop roof but maybe that's not an issue where you are.

Welcome back to chickens, hope you have fun with your flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. It is a good idea to have the coop in the shade, but I would be careful that your run is not in too heavy a shade as light striking the hens pineal gland is what stimulates their laying. If your hens don't get enough light, their lay rate could drop off. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
