Yep.Mine.I wish they were bubble wrapped... I have them in the bator now but in egg cartons not turning for 7 days.

Okay, I found the pics of some of my shipped eggs. I am not going to say who they were from, but they were a private sale (not an auction) that I arranged through this site. The eggs WERE packed loosely in bubble wrap, but it consisted of one single layer of thin (tiny bubbles) wrap taped around each egg, then the eggs placed in a carton...but because this was for a dozen PLUS, the extra eggs were stacked directly on top of the dozen in the carton, then the eggs were taped together and placed in a box with one single layer of large bubble wrap around them. And then no cushion was added to the box, so the eggs were just tossed and rolled around inside their flimsy bubble wrap cocoon. You can see how much space was left in the box in the first photo. All the "extra" eggs that were on top were broken, and many of the ones beneath were also broken. A few were only cracked, so I attempted to re-seal those with NewSkin, and they're in the incubator now. I lost a little bit more than 1/3 of the eggs. Unfortunately, these are dark Marans eggs, so I really can't be sure if I see anything developing inside.

are you kidding me! I'm not one for badmouthing anyone, but I wouldnt think twice about talking to the seller and seeing if they will make it right........ and if not, making sure nobody else has to waste money buying eggs from this person.

That is really unfortunate. I just received eggs from a member here and he did a great job with packing. I expected it as there had been several comments on his packing from other BYC'ers. At the least ask the individual to reconsider how things are packed for shipping (A partial refund by the shipper would be a sign of "good-faith" on their part)

That looks awful.I thought bubble wrap would be better??

With the dark brown Marans eggs - you can candle to see the development of the air cell. Make sure the room is totally dark and with your candler move it over the fat end of the egg. If the egg is developing then you will see a light spot formed inside the shell. Check at 7 days and then again at 14 days to make sure the air cell is getting larger. I just hatched out my first batch of 24 Black Copper Marans eggs. 23 hatched and one egg was infertile and removed half way through the 21 days. I've candled tons of white and green eggs and always marvel at the veins and the little embryo moving at 1 week along. But need a better brighter candler to see that with the Marans. But at least tracking the air cell let me know the embryo's were developing on track & not a dud.

When you candle a really fresh egg you may not see an air cell at all. Like one of yours from the backyard. But eggs that have been sitting for a few days will get a little pocket of air forming at the center of the fattest part of the egg. This pocket gets bigger as the egg develops. With a displaced air cell you will see a light pocket running from the fat end of the egg down one side(if you're lucky) & you can see the air cell move as you tip the egg. Or it may look like multiple overlapping circles of light at the fat end of the egg. I bought 5 little duck eggs and in every one of them you could watch the air bubble(s) move to the highest point of the shell in every direction. Turn the egg with the pointy side up and the cell would be in the point. I thought all were doomed. But I followed some info I found & placed then in a cut down egg carton, fat part of eggs up. After they settled for 20 hours I put them in the incubator, in the carton. I placed a knife on the floor of the incubator and put one edge of the carton on top of the knife to tip them ever so slightly. When I turned my other eggs I just shifted the carton so that the opposite side of carton rested on the knife. I've done this four times a day. They may not be getting turned (or rolled) as far over as the other eggs but they are getting moved a little. These 5 eggs came in on March 21st. On April 1st I candled just by placing light to the top of the eggs,in the carton,in the incubator. I actually have one growing. The other 4 I pulled out and cracked open to check. One was totally scrambled in the shell. The other 3 had water for egg whites but I also saw the germinal disk on all 3 egg yolks, but no vein development. What a waste. Now I face the same thing again. I just received over 40 Call duck eggs, only 4 with a good air cell. Every other one is displaced. Maybe eggs coming INTO the Pinckney,Mich.area are passing through a rough Post Office Sorting Facility. All I know it that the 4 buyers who got 16 to 18 eggs each from me have reported back that ALL of my shipped eggs are growing for them. Not a crack or messed up air cell at all. And all the eggs I am receiving have watery egg whites and floating bubbles for air cells. Guess we'll see what happens this time around!

Sorry about your eggs, elrn50. I'm going to attempt the "dry incubation" method with these eggs that arriving tomorrow. I hope somebody with experience will chime in on the "settling" issue.

I just did the dry incubation method and hatched out 23 BCMarans from 24 eggs - one was infertile. Just keep your humidity no higher then 40% for 18 days. Then put humidity between 60% and 65% for the last 3 days during lock down. This is the first time all my fertile eggs pipped and hatched. Before I used to put humidity at 65% during the whole last week and some pipped and then died. And I found out why!!! I read an article on hatching exotic parrots that stated "when the humidity is high water actually condenses inside the air cell. So when the chick/duck/parrot/etc pipped through the membrane(and possibly the shell too)into the air cell they would actually drown from the water INSIDE the air cell. Made sense to me so I kept the humidity low until I put them in lock down for the last 3 days. Worked like a charm!!!
