Seven Brides for one Brother

My wife and decided, like many other people, in 2020 to get a few chickens. While I was raised on a farm in South Alabama and have experience raising chickens my wife had none. We used BYC to decide what breed we wanted. We choose the Buff Orpington. We placed an order in the fall of 2020 for six hens and one rooster then promptly got to work building the brooder, coop and yard. We received seven females and one male on March 15, 2021. They are now 5 months old and doing well. I was surprised that we didn’t lose one or two but we didn’t. Starting getting eggs the 1st week of August. Averaging four a day right now.

I love buff orphingtons! Sadly I dont own any currently. Love the coop and I am surprised you got what you payed for!

Many birds take a day or two off a week from laying. The eggs start off rather small but get larger as they continue to lay. Good luck with your flock and have fun...
